Summer Reading Program 2013 ~ "Dig Into Reading!"
Summer Reading Program Kick-Off: Jon Gailmor ~ Tuesday, June 25 at 6:30 ~ Kick-off the summer reading program with Elmore musician Jon Gailmor. Jon will present "down to earth" songs about dirt, animals that burrow, things that grow in the soil, earthy people and all sorts of songs that folks of all ages.
Model Railroading and Coal Trains ~ Tuesday, July 2 at Noon ~ Join us for a program on the art of model railroading and coal trains presented by Shaun Booher. We will make our own miniature coal trains! For ages 8 and up.
Ellie's Preschool Parties ~ Wednesday, July 3 at 10:00 ~ Ellie Tetrick of Colchester will take preschools on an imaginative journey through the "digging" theme that includes music, movement, instruments, bubbles, parachute games and lots of fun!
Dig Into Origami ~ Tuesday, July 9 at Noon ~ Gail Martin, an educator from Bristol, Vermont, will lead an origami workshop for youth ages 7 and up. Put your origami skills to work and take home a "treasure"!
"Life Underground" ~ Thursday, July 11 at 11:00 ~ Carrie Riker of Lamoille County Nature Center will teach us about life beneath the ground. Ever wonder what types of critters love below your ankles? Come learn about plant and animal life under your feet, open up some "basement windows," take a trip to the compost cafe and test your touch with some mystery roots. For ages 5 and up.
Journaling Workshop for Teens ~ Tuesday, July 16 at Noon ~ We will discover what lies "beneath the surface" at a Journaling Workshop for ages 12 and up. Journal prompts and discussion will provide writing topics.
Rockin' Ron the Friendly Pirate ~ Thursday, July 18 at 10:00 ~ Pirate music for kids of all ages and kids at heart! We will learn about pirate mythology and Captain Kidd, and discover how an interest in pirate lore can you lead to "dig into" other fun subjects like geography and history. This program is made possible by a donation from the Vermont Department of Libraries and the Smith Fund.
PJ Movie Night ~ Wednesday, July 24 at 5:00 ~ Youth of all ages are invited to wear their pajamas to the library and watch "The Lorax," based on Dr. Seuss's beloved book. Popcorn and juice will be served.
Summer Reading Wrap-Up Party: Fairy and Elf Houses ~ Tuesday, April 1 at 11:00 ~ We will wrap up our summer reading program by creating our own Fairy and Elf houses to take home and put in our backyards. All youth who participated in the summer reading program will receive awards and prizes as well.
Story Times take place on Tuesday mornings at
10:30, and are geared toward children age 5 and under. Story times
include books/stories, songs, rhymes, simple movement, feltboard
activities and a craft.

Special Programs
American Girl Party: Saige ~ Wednesday, May 29 from 3:30-4:30 ~ We'll have a party based on the newest American Girl, Saige. The Saige books are written by Jessie Haas, a Vermont author. Bring your American Girl doll, or any other doll, and enjoy stories, songs, crafts, games, and snacks. For ages 5 and up.
Superman Day ~ Saturday, June 15 from 11:00-Noon ~ We'll celebrate the release of the upcoming Superman movie with super activities! New Superman graphic novels will also be available. For ages 9 and up.
Afterschool Club
After May 28, the Afterschool Club will end for the summer. We will start up again in September!
May 28 ~ Book Jeopardy ~ We'll play our own version of Jeopardy based on books.
