Fundraising for the New Building Project

The “large donor” fundraising committee of your library board of trustees has been quite busy over the last year or so and the workload is blossoming. Recently special letters were sent out to area businesses and larger regional businesses that employ a number of local people asking for a $1,000 (or larger) pledge that could be paid over a three year period. Results are not yet in, but we are hopeful!

Plans for Building Project

Everyone will soon be able to see with their own eyes that donated funds have come in from very generous people and organizations. With the Phase I building shell project soon to break ground at a cost of approximately $700,000, everyone will realize just how generous donors have been.

Of course, some of the money already pledged will not actually flow into the library’s Building Fund Account until later. The library’s fundraising committee is asking those of you who have made a pledge to consider sending it along—we will spend it wisely!

For anyone who might think breaking ground April 5 on our new building project means fundraising is over, nothing could be farther from the truth. Fundraising is not quite complete for the $700,000 estimated Phase 1 cost and trustees would love to have the dollars in hand to simply continue the work on the building. Steps beyond Phase 1 might include the wiring, plumbing, and sprinkler system. Trustees are certainly hoping that when everyone sees a new library addition is actually under way, new donors will step up to the plate and hit a ball into the outfield for the library home team!

If you think the outlook is a little bit better for your family and your business or investments, consider a gift to your local library, which hopes to serve more and more local people, better and better in the future. Come on in and meet our new Children’s Librarian, ask any of the trustees about the building plans, and please, please, if you haven’t had a library card in many years we want to give you one.

Wine and Cheese Event

Wine and Cheese Event

With trustee John Meyer graciously serving as “wine tender,” guests arrived at the library on February 6 to meet architect Paul Trudell, contractor Mike Isabell, and site manager Sonny Demars. Plans for the library addition and renovation were displayed and questions were answered by the trio. Trustees and librarian Mary West were also on hand to discuss this long-anticipated and much-needed project. Cheese and crackers, cookies, and fruit were served. Thanks goes to the Friends of the Morristown Library group who provided the cookies and fruit. Mt. Mansfield Creamery of Morrisville kindly donated some of their locally produced cheese for guests’ enjoyment. This event was the kick-off announcement for the upcoming library construction Phase I groundbreaking. Information on the renovations and addition are available at the library.

Prior to moving to Vermont last August, I worked as School Librarian at Russell Elementary School and Children’s Librarian at Byron G. Merrill Library, both in Rumney, NJ. In 2009, I completed my certification as a Library Media Specialist at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH. I also have a background in creative writing and music, and always incorporate music into story times and programs for children.

I hope to create a welcoming atmosphere for youth and families at the library, to encourage library involvement, and to promote literacy and learning for all young people. I am excited that the library building is expanding, and I look forward to helping the Youth Services program expand and develop as well. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! On days that I’m not at the library, you can contact me at youthservices@centenniallibrary.org. You may also want to check out our new Kids’ Page on the library’s website for information about new books, story times, upcoming events, and more.
